High HCV viral load?
May 12, 2009

Good Morning Dr. M! I was Dx'd w/ 9.2 million HCV vl. Dr. said it was extremly high. Is it that high, relatively. I believe I was exposed in 1983 during massive transfusion. Thank you!

Response from Dr. McGovern

Yes it is high but there is no correlation between viral load and disease.

A high viral load is important in that it can be harder to treat someone with a lot of virus. But some people do just fine. The only thing that really matters if your baseline viral load comes down to non-detectable with treatment.
