Cure
Mar 2, 2009

My uncle has been fighting hcv for the past 10 years. He has tried the shots and didn't work. Recently though he told me his doctor said there was a cure probably a year or two away? Have u heard anything about this?

Response from Dr. McGovern

He is referring to STAT-C - specifically targeted antiviral therapy for hepatitis C. There are going to be multiple classes of drugs with activity against hepatitis C that should be unfolding over the next two to ten years. They will include protease inhibitors, polymerase inhibitors, cyclophilin inhibitors and others....As of now, they will be combined with interferon and ribavirin.
