would hep c show up on routine blood work
Nov 22, 2008

i was just woundering if hep c would show up on routine blood work? i have snorted coke a couple times and shared the same straw so im very freaked out. what do you think my chances of getting hep c from sharing a straw are? thank so much

Response from Dr. McGovern

I think the risk of getting hepatitis C from sharing straws is relatively low compared to other risk factors, such as sharing injection drug use paraphernalia/needles. However, I would recommend testing to decrease your anxiety and to get confirmation.

Then I would recommend no further cocaine use, which can cause heart attacks. One of my patients had a severe heart attack after cocaine use which has led to a severe change in his quality of life.
