|Worried daughter and hepatitis fears
Nov 16, 2008
Hi Just over 30 years ago my Mother had a form of Hepatitis when she was about 18 years old although she is not sure of the type she had. She had symptoms such as Jaundice which affected her eyes pale stools and also itchy skin on the bottom of her feet. When she went to the doctor with these symptoms, they didn't test her for any specific type of hepatitis but instead tested her blood for aneamia and also did a liver fuction test which both came back with normal results. My question is What is the likelihood that my mother is infected with hepatitis C or Chronically affected with Hepatitis B. After 30 years would she be displaying any symptoms, she hasn't displayed any typical symptoms although she does suffer with IBS type symptoms which may be a result of her having diverticular disease Thankyou

Jaundice secondary to viral hepatitis can be part of a significant illness related to the offending agents. However, it turns out that jaundice is a predictor of viral clearance in many patients.
She should simply be checked to be certain. A simple few blood tests will be in order with her general physician.
