Elevated SGPT
Sep 24, 2008

I am 38 M ,within 3 months SGOT/SGPT has raised from 77/104 to 146/202,i have stopped alcohol for 3 month still it is raising, i have stopped long medicines Eption 150mg(used last 4 years)and hepatotoxin medicine(used last 1 year for Diabetes).

Diabetic level has come down in last 3 months by using Insulin.

Abdomen Scan showing normal except very Mild Prostatomegaly.

Now without controlling SGPT i cannot stop Insulin.

Please help with guidence and advice.

Thanks in advance.

Response from Dr. McGovern

If you are diabetic, you are also at risk for fatty liver. If your liver function tests are abnormal, I certainly would get formal testing for HBV and HCV. If negative, I would seek the advice of a liver specialist and consider a biopsy to see if you have complicated fatty liver disease called steatohepatitis.
