hep c
Sep 22, 2008

so if you had anal sex with someone with hep c for a 1 time would i have got itthere was no blood and no syphilis?

Response from Dr. McGovern

We don't have good information about the "risk per exposure" - However, it is important to be aware of anal sex as a risk factor for HCV acquisition. The presence of traumatic sex and other STDs (like syphilis) are associated with increased risk of HCV acquisition.

I would get testing for HCV antibody on a regular basis if this type of exposure is ongoing. Testing recommendations are in flux right now, but I suspect that more testing will eventually be recommended.

For now, make certain your physician is aware of your possible risks/exposures and both of you can discuss frequency of testing.

Also be certain to have your immunizations - like Hepatitis B - up to date.
