about so much difference in cutoff values of Hepatitis C
Sep 7, 2008

I had Positive hepatitis result since start 2007. My first test result anti HCV antibody reactive 2.005 while cutoff value 0.195. One week later after using some medicine result 2.288 cut offvalue 0.195. one week later test results 2.021 cutoff value 0.195.

then one month later I tested myself from another laboratory , result was REACTIVE 103.64 while cutoff value was 1.00. one week later i wasput to test again on same lab and result was REACTIVE 90.79 cutoff value 1.00.

one year later and few days ago I as sent to a lab to be examined again and this time result was REACTIVE 1.081 and cutoff value 0.314.

my question is why cutoff value from different labs is different? is my situations getting better or not? I am from Pakistan.

Response from Dr. McGovern

Every lab is different and I wouldn't get any more HCV antibodies since they are all basically saying the same thing.

A useful test would be a HCV RNA to see if you have virus in your blood along with liver function tests.
