Doctor, I know there has been discussion on whether Hepatitis C delays HIV seroconversion. However, does Hepatitis A or B, delay HIV seroconversion?
Also, have their been new cases of Hepatitis C delaying HIV seroconversion, or is it still a precaution due to the New England Journal Reference from the 90's?
Response from Dr. McGovern
Good question. No I am not aware of any data that Hepatitis A or B delays HIV seroconversion.
Also - the recommendation regarding testing for HIV 12 months after a person develops acute hepatitis C is still just a precautionary one....Delayed HIV seroconversion remains a very rare event and only pertains to a person who actually develops acute HCV infection.
tested for both hiv and hep c
