Possible Infection?
May 19, 2008

I was tested 2 years ago on Hepatitis titers with following result HBS Ag - Negative; HBS Ab Positive Anti HAV- Negative. Recently I learned that my partner has HBS Ab negative Ag posive with normal liver enzyme; Core Ag Paositive. I have slightly elevated liver enzymes and UTZ revealed result fatty infiltration VS hepatocellular disease. My doctor missed to order HBS AG or Core Ag. We have sex before. MAy I be infected? Im worried?

Response from Dr. McGovern

Your prior surface antibody suggested that you were protected against hepatitis B. Yes that would be good news but it should be tested again to be certain that you are still protected.

Your ultrasound could also support fatty liver disease which can result in abnormal LFTs as well. You will want to pursue further evaluation of your liver with your physician.
