test results - positive for hep b??
Apr 6, 2008

american born asian male in 30's test results the following hep b sur ag - POSITIVE hep b sur ab - negative hep b core ab - POSITIVE anti-hep c ab - negative how do i know if im acute or chronic? how do i know when i got it and how i have had it? do i have to wait 6months and see if i still have it? if so then im chronic?

Response from Dr. McGovern

You will need further testing at six months. If your core antibody is IgG, it is probably chronic infection. You will need HBV DNA testing and liver function tests serially over time to determine what will be needed - eg, a liver biopsy and/or treatment.

Help my 3 years old son! Great appreciated it!
