| When do I need treatment? Apr 6, 2008 Hello Dr. McGovern, Im 39 years old male and have been an inactive carrier or hepatitis B with normal AST/ALT and undetectable HBV DNA and E antigen negative E antibody positive for the past five years. My recent results show about 2X ALT and 2900 IU or 15000 copies HBV DNA. Do I need to wait or do I need treatment right away? If I need to wait how long do I have to wait and retest to see if my liver panel and hbv dna is still elevated? |

Response from Dr. McGovern
Good question. I would wait about 3 to 6 months and repeat all the tests again. Your HBV DNA is low and may even go back down again. I would not jump into treatment yet. | |||||||||
