| Am I coinfected? please answer I am very scared Mar 7, 2008 Dear Dr Barbara, I have checked your column today but disappointed for not seeing a reply. You must be very busy. But please answer I am very desperate, eager and over anxious about my situation. please, please answer. I had taken a test of Hep BSAg; Hep C Ab & HIV 1/2 Antibody 9 months after a possible exposure all results were Nonreactive. I repeated a Hep B sAg and SAb and HIV 1/2 Ab/Ag test at 12 months after exposure and all results were negative. I have never been immunised against Hep A or B. Is it possible I am still coinfected and have not yet seroconservated? Do I need any PCR tests. PLEASE help. I would love to soon send some donation towards your organisation. You Guys are wonderful and doing an excellent job at this forum. Please reply, I am waiting desperately for your answer. awaiting. XYZ |

Response from Dr. McGovern
Sorry, waiting for an answer must be difficult. We get hundreds of great questions, but can only answer a portion of them since we do this forum only in our spare time. That is why we try to fully answer some questions that will be helpful to many. Testing for exposure is only recommended for approximately six months. You are certainly in the clear. I wouldn't give this any more thought. I would certainly get immunized for HBV, which is easily transmitted through sex. I would also use condoms for all encounters so that you can rest more easily in the future. | |||||||||
