| Dental Transmission of Hepatitis? Dec 4, 2007 Hello. I was just curious how common Hepatitis Transmission is via dentist office cleanings? Last time I was there I questioned them about an autoclave. They said they use one machine that sorta shakes all particals off the tools. Then she said they use some machine(not an autoclave) to sterilize the tools.I forget what the machine is called. She said this machine gets hotter than an autoclave does so it doesnt take quite as long to sterilize tools as an autoclave does. Do you know of any machines that get hotter than an autoclave? Should I be worried about getting work done where they use anything but an autoclave? Thanks |

Response from Dr. McGovern
It is hard for me to comment because I am not sure about what other machine you may be referring to. I would simply ask your dentist directly about the sterilization process and be direct about your concerns. Most likely, you will be reassured since dentists are well trained about these issues. | |||||||||
