hi dr. i was wondering if you have personally ever seen anyone seroconvert for HCV or HIV greater than 6 mths? thank you
Response from Dr. McGovern
I personally have never seen this.
However, there is a well known case of a needlestick exposure and acute hepatitis C in a healthcare worker who then converted for HIV much later than is usually seen. That is why the CDC recommends retesting for HIV at 12 months after exposure ONLY IF the patient developed acute (new) HCV infection as well.
pls. help me
