Hep B results query
Oct 12, 2007

Dear Dr Barbara McGovern

My brother tested his hep B recently and the results found to be as below:

Oct 2007 - HBsAg (Non reactive) Jan 2007 - HBsAg (Reactive - weak/low titre) Oct 2006 - HBeAg (Non reactive) May 2006 - HBsAg (Reactive - weak/low titre) June 2005 - HBsAg (Reactive - weak/low titre), HBeAg - Non reactive, Anti-HBe - Reactive

Looking at the results, he should be a hep B carrier right? Is it possible that the HBsAg result turned into NR this month?

Response from Dr. McGovern

It seems that most of these titres are of weak reactivity, which makes me wonder if the HBsAg has been confirmed by the laboratory. These tests always need confirmation.

I would also check a full set of labs including HBV DNA to see if there is any evidence of viremia.
