Hep C
Sep 9, 2007

I just read there's a 1 -3 percent of giving hep c from sex but the chances are higher through seman. How can one possible have sex without getting semen when not using a condom. After my husband and I have sex i do touch his seman.. Am i asking for serious trouble in getting infected? thank you so much.

Response from Dr. McGovern

None of these figures are in stone - the bottom line is that acquiring hepatitis C through sex is uncommon but not zero. Condoms brings the risk to zero. Risk factors for transmission of HCV sexually include having traumatic anal sex and sex during a time of ulceration with STDs since this increases the chance of blood to blood exposure.
