HCV manicure...i cant sleep :(
Sep 9, 2007

While getting a manicure, the manicurist cut a chunk of my skin off. I started to bleed and she kept trying to stop the bleed with alcohol, the green antiseptic they use, cotton swabs, paper towels, etc.....even though the wound was small i kept bleeding and bleeding. The whole time while i was bleeding she just kept working away and she got my blood on her hands and she even gave me a hand massage while i was bleeding ( I think she assumed i would stop bleeding....but i did not stop). The instruments they use were sterilized (by their standards at least, in some toaster oven with uv lights)...but i cant sleep because i keep thinking could i have somehow gotten hepatitis c through this encounter. I dont think she had any open cuts or any active bleeds and I dont know if the equipment she used on me had dry blood...but i for sure did bleed all over her...she didnt even blink! I will never ever go to a nail salon ever again...can u please tell me if i should get tested

Response from Dr. McGovern

It sounds like this has been a traumatic experience for you. I doubt there is any risk to you. However, testing can sometimes put anxiety to rest better than simple assurance.
