Response from Dr. McGovern
There are two new classes of drugs that are in advanced stages of development called protease inhibitors and polymerase inhibitors. The studies are ongoing as we speak, but the results look promising. However, most expect that these drugs will need to be used in combination with interferon to decrease the risk of resistance. If you go on treatment again with interferon and your white blood cell goes down, you could discuss the option of GCSF with your doctor. This medication helps your WBC rise. | |||||||||
