false test results Aug 6, 2007 Hi We are considering adopting a child who has tested positive for Hepb in his first test and negative in his second test. Would a third test using the same blood sample give us a conclusive result if done about a month later? Could the blood sample deteriorate? |

 I would review the two results you have already with your physician and have him or her discuss the results with the laboratory director. With hepatitis B testing, sometimes the surface antigen is improperly read out as positive without confirmatory testing. Then when confirmatory testing is done, the result is a true negative. I would pursue further understanding of what you already have since the answer may be already apparent. | ||||||||
