| Hepatitus C and sexual transmission Jul 15, 2007 I have been diagnosed as having Hepatitus C. I have recently been having sex with a new partner. Although we have been using condoms there was one instance when I entered her without. No ejaculation took place and I have no obvious open wounds on my penis. However I have heard that during sex miniscule cuts are made both to the penis and the vagina. Could this be enough to cause transmission? How long does it take for the virus to become apparent through blood tests? |

Response from Dr. McGovern
Strongly doubt that this would be an exposure of concern. Sexual transmission is uncommon and quoted around 1 to 2 percent among monogamous couples over time. Sexual transmission of HCV increases in the setting of significant trauma (eg, anal intercourse) or concomitant STDS. Good job on using condoms - this will lessen the risk. | |||||||||
