hep C genotype 1A
Jun 17, 2007

What would be the most common recommended treatment for this type of hep C and what are the side effects?

Response from Dr. McGovern

The only treatment right now if Pegylated interferon and ribavirin. Side effects include fevers, chills, muscle aches (early on), depression, difficulty sleeping, fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, diarrhea and other side effects. This should be discussed with your physician.

However, many people have fatigue as their major symptom. Other symptoms can be alleviated with other medications (eg, an anti-nausea drug for nausea).
