| Baby Scratches Jan 1, 2007 Hello Dr McGovern, My five month old baby manages to scratch himself and others no matter how often his nails are cut and filed! Sometimes the scratches he inflicts are so deep, blood is visible. This has got me a little worried - especially about hepatitis C. I do not know the status of a lot of my family and friends. I would like to know what your thoughts are on the chances of transmission to my baby should any one of them be infected. Worried Mother |

Response from Dr. McGovern
Transmission of hepatitis C requires blood to blood transmission. Sounds like the recipients of the scratches are the only ones who are bleeding. No risk here. | |||||||||
