|occult infection, PLEASE HELP!!!!
Dec 3, 2006
Have you heard of occult hcv??? What do you think about that??? I have tested negative many times out to 2 years after my exposure to HCV, but I am afraid I may have this occult infection that I have read about on the net. My exposure was unprotected sex, 4 times, with a women I later found out has HCV. What would you say my risk was?? Here are my tests and the results.
04/02/05 - hcvab - weakly positive 04/06/05- RIBA - negative 09/27/05 - hcvab negative s/co 0.2 06/15/06 - hcvab negative s/co 0.3 07/26/06 - hcvab negative s/co 0.2 08/01/06 - RIBA - negative 08/10/06 - hcv rna qualitative - negative 10/12/06 hcvab negative s/co 0.2 The range for s/co on my test was 0.0 - 0.9
I still have many symptoms (faint RUQ pain, dry eyes, dry mouth..I even have a red spot on my nose!!! which Dermatalogist says IS spider nevi but not to worry since all my tests have been OK and normal healthy people can have one of them too!!).
My LFT's have been normal and low but my AST is higher than my ALT (june 06 AST=21 ALT=20, aug 06 AST=20 ALT=17, oct 06 AST=17 ALT=14). Is that something that I should worry about?? I also have had a ultrasound which came back normal.
Just wanting your opinion on this matter since there is so much info on the net about it but no real experts commenting about it!!! Thanks

Sounds like you have a very healthy liver. Sometimes a person can have HCV virus in their blood with a negative HCV antibody. This usually occurs in transplant patients or HIV infected patients with advanced AIDS> I would not test further.
reply to ur question..
Hepatitis C genotype 1a
