hepabig and vaccine
Oct 9, 2006

good day!

Just want to know the difference between hepabig and hepa vaccine doses.what is hepabig(immunoglobilin) for? will it be still effective if administered beyond the prescribed 24 hour period? Will a booster dose help? I'm from the Philippines and i'm terribly worried about my newborn child.

Response from Dr. McGovern

Use of both hepatitis B immunoglobulin (HBIG) and Hepatitis B vaccine are extremely effective in preventing transmission of hepatitis B virus from mother to infant.

Hepatitis B vaccine induces the body's immune system to protect itself from future exposures of hepatitis B virus. It takes a few weeks for the immune system to respond.

HBIG is a pool of immunoglobulins which immediately protect someone from acquiring HBV when exposed.
