Inactive HBV carrier having unprotected sex with active HBV carrier Sep 2, 2006 Hello Doctor. I am a HBV inactive carrier with HBs Ag+, HBe Ag-, HBV DNA(PCR)=4055 copies/mL, ALT and AST are within normal. I want to have unprotected sex with my new girlfriend who is an active HBV carrier with 100s of millions of copies/mL. We went through medical testing for HIV, HCV and other tests and we are both clean. My concern: could me having unprotected sex with her ignite my inactive stage and turn it to active since she is very active?. I hope I will get an answer to my question as I am so much concerned about it. Thank you so much in advance. |

 I personally would be concerned about this. In HIV, for example, we know that patients can be "superinfected" with another strain of virus. I would be concerned that the same thing could happen in this situation that you describe. | ||||||||
