HEP C IN SALIVIA
Aug 12, 2006

I AM A POLICE OFFICER AND HAD TO HELP THE PARAMEDICS RESTRAIN A PROSTITUTE WHO NEEDED MEDICAL ATTENTION. DURING THE INCIDENT A DROP OF SALIVIA HIT ME IN THE EYE AND SHE WAS ALSO SOAKED IN HER OWN URINE WHICH GOT ONTO MY PANTS. DO YOU RECOMMEND GETTING TESTED FOR HEP C?

Response from Dr. McGovern

If a drop of blood got into your eye, I would recommend testing although I would be telling you that the risk is extremely low. A drop of saliva would not prompt me to have you tested at all.
