What do we do if we have acute hepatitis? Should we rest or take medication or....
| Response from Dr. McGovern
Acute hepatitis can be from hepatitis A, B, or C. "Acute" means that you just got infected and got sick.
For hepatitis A, we suggest rest because all patients clear. There is not treatment. For hepatitis B, we also suggest watchful waiting, because most, but not all, patients clear by six months. For hepatitis C, we suggest serial HCV RNA levels to see if you clear on your own. If not, we suggest treatment since early therapy leads to a very high chance of cure.
