| How do I know Aug 6, 2006 A former boyfriend told me had hepatitis but I didn't question him about it because I don't know what it is. He refused to have any sexual contact with me. Could this have been the reason? I was so hurt that he didn't want to touch me but now I wonder if this could have been the reason. How do I know to which type of hepatitis he could have? |

Response from Dr. McGovern
The hepatitis virus that is most commonly spread through sex is hepatitis B. However, vaccination of the sexual partner is very effective in preventing transmission. Hepatitis C can be spread sexually as well, but is much less commonly spread this way than hepatitis B. Transmission is associated with sex with trauma. | |||||||||
