How do I know
Aug 6, 2006

A former boyfriend told me had hepatitis but I didn't question him about it because I don't know what it is. He refused to have any sexual contact with me. Could this have been the reason? I was so hurt that he didn't want to touch me but now I wonder if this could have been the reason. How do I know to which type of hepatitis he could have?

Response from Dr. McGovern

The hepatitis virus that is most commonly spread through sex is hepatitis B. However, vaccination of the sexual partner is very effective in preventing transmission.

Hepatitis C can be spread sexually as well, but is much less commonly spread this way than hepatitis B. Transmission is associated with sex with trauma.
