about Hep B carrier
Jun 7, 2006

i want to ask for Hepatitis B carrier, if the blood test of (HBsAg) and (e Ü©) and ( ?Ü©) are all positive but the (HBeAg) is still negative , then what does it imply? and is that those carrier already have the antibody to Hep B and so dont have the chance to get Hep B?

Response from Dr. McGovern

If you are a carrier of hepatitis B (surface antigen positive) you can have either Hepatitis B e antigen positive or Hepatitis B e antigen negative infection.

Some patients have HBV virus that does not make the e antigen marker so it doesn't show up in your blood. However, you can still have chronic liver disease with either form of infection, so it is important to check HBV DNA to see if virus is in your bloodstream.
