| HBV DNA test Apr 13, 2006 Dear Dr. McGovern, I am a 35 years old asian male and I believe I was infected with HBV since childhood because my mother is also a carrier. All my liver function tests have been normal. 2 years ago I had undetected HBV DNA by PCR, negative HBeAG and positive HBeAB. 2 weeks ago, my MD let me have another HBV DNA test and it still remained undetected, normal liver function panel test and normal AFP. Also ultrasound show no problem. What are my chances to get HCC? I worry so much about it because I've read from the internet the chance of getting HCC from a person who is infected since childhood is very high. Please help. Thank you. |

Response from Dr. McGovern
You should continue to be monitored, but your chance of HCC is very low since your viral load is nondetectable. Continue monitoring though. | |||||||||
