| HEP C and sexual transmission? Apr 13, 2006 I just posted a question to you about lip piercings, but I wanted to address something else. I've read a couple of your answers saying hep c there is a 1-3% chance of hep c being transmitted through sex... But have you read this? http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=pubmed&dopt=Abstract&list_uids=15128350 |

Response from Dr. McGovern
Thank you for sharing this article which basically states that after following monogamous couples for several years the risk of transmission of HCV is basically zero. However, several other studies suggest 1 to 3 percent. I think it all depends on your study population. This latest article talks about couples who never had anal intercouse - which is probably the greatest risk in terms of mucosal tearing and transmission. Even among men who have sex with men, hepatitis C transmission is associated with trauma as well. Dr. M | |||||||||
