i have never tested for hepatitis before, im 24, but recently i had some blood work done to me for hep a,b, and c. As a child i became infected with hep a, i came from a third world country. I didnt learned this untill recently. that being said, my results are as followed: Hep A: hepatitis a total ab +, hepatitis a igm -. Interpretation: Hepatitis A serology consistent with past exposure or previous vaccination to hepatitis a virus. No evidence of current acute hepatitis A infection. I know that once you get hep a you wiull never get it again, so should i worry about it any more???
Hep B: hepatitis b surf ag -, hepatitis b core total ab -, hepatitis b surface ab +. Interpretation: hepatitis b serology consistent with immunity to hepatitis b infection from previous hepatitis b vaccination. I dont ever remember getting the shots for this..thats why im concerned with this. i checked my vaccine records from 6th grade and below and no records of me ever getting this shot. should i be concerned???
Hep c: hepatitis c antibody -, Interpretation: Hep c serology shows no serologic evidence of exposure to hep c virus at the time. it can take up to 12 months after exposure for antibodies to become detectable in the blood. I've been with the same partner for over 1yr now (unprotected sex), but did get oral (jan 06)from a different girl. is this risky??
I have experienced some minor discomfort on my right side and knee pain. but i have also been worried sick about this results.
can you plz clarify them for me...god bless
Response from Dr. McGovern
Hepatitis A: Past exposure You need not worry at all. Hepatitis A does not cause chronic disease.
Hepatitis B: consistent with vaccination. Even if you don't remember being vaccinated, the blood tests are completely consistent with immunization and nothing else.
