what is the difference between Hep C and Hep B. Is one more serious than the other?
Response from Dr. McGovern
Both can cause liver disease and liver cancer. Hepatitis B is spread through sex and injection drug use; hepatitis C is spread most commonly through injection drug use and much less commonly through sex.
However, hepatitis B most often clears from the body and does not cause chronic disease.
On the other hand, hepatitis C causes chronic disease in about 80 percent of people.
Both illnesses can be treated.
