am i chronic active hbv?? Apr 2, 2006 I am a 21 yr old male recently diagnosed with hbsag +ve, e antigen +ve, e antibody -ve, hb surface antibody +ve, dna= 3 billion copies and ast=48,alt=50. My liver u/s showed mild increased echogenicity and afp =1.1. I dont know how i contracted hbv, my whole family including my mother is negative so i'm guessing its not vertical transmission. do you think i would benefit with treatment?? am in the chronic active or immune tolerant phase since i hav such a high dna level?? |

 Good question. Your liver function tests are only mildly abnormal despite having a very high viral load. You may be in the immune tolerant phase yes..However I would want to follow a few more liver function tests before making that decision for sure since hepatitis B can become more active over time. I would also want a liver biopsy to determine if you need therapy at present. Dr. M | ||||||||
