HBV and antibiotic

Dear Dr. McGovern

I am an inactive HBV carrier. my MD put me on 5 days of cefuroxime 250mg (twice a day) for my throat infection. I am wondering if it is OK for my liver? Thank you.

Cefuroxime is absolutely fine for your liver. It is always a good idea to ask a physician if a medication is of concern for your liver, particularly if it is one you will take chronically.
