HEP B Lab Results
Apr 1, 2006

Hello Dr, About 5 years ago I had a bout with Hep B. Recovery seems complete, but here's the last blood test results from last week: Surface Antibody-Negative Surface Antigen-Negative Core Antibody-Negative-

My Dr. feels I could be distantly immune, Liver function test are all normal. I had a DNA by PCR 2-3 years ago and no copies of the virus were detected (test detection range was min 200 copies).. and not a Chronic Carrier.. What is your opinion?

Response from Dr. McGovern

My opinion based on your information, is that the original diagnosis of any hepatitis B infection is suspect. I don't believe you were ever infected since your core antibodies are negative.

If you are at risk at present, I would certainly get vaccinated since your surface antibodies are negative.
