| is a liver biopsy necessary? Jan 21, 2006 Hi dr. McGovern. I'm a 38 years old male. I have inactive hep b all my blood tests, LFTs are normal. my hep B eAg is (-) and my hep B e Ab is(+). My HBV DNA is around 500 IU/ml. My doctor said this is very low and you are inactive carrier. My doctor did not order a liver biopsy. My ultrasound and and CT scan are all normal. US show homogenous echo texture and nothing abnormal is seen. Do I need a liver biopsy? thank you. |

Response from Dr. McGovern
I also do not feel strongly that you need a liver biopsy at this time. I would get monitored for your hepatitis B every six months to see if the laboratories change. This may lead to a change of management. Right now, I agree with your approach. Dr. M | |||||||||
