|HCV PCR or TMA
Dec 12, 2005
Do the parameters of HCV PCR/TMA tests depend upon the immune system for an interpretation? If I have an unhealthy immune system due to HIV, and my HCV PCR/TMA is undetectable, does that mean I am clear, or is the viral test also somehow contingent upon immune system function for proper interpretation?
Response from Dr. Dieterich
Very good question! The TMA or PCR tests are based solely on the virus! They are not based on immune parameters like antibodies! This is true for HIV HBV HCV viral load tests just the same! Congratulations! your HCV is undectable! DTD
