viral rampup Dec 10, 2005 Does viremia ramp-up in acute HCV infection depend upon immune response? If immune response poor, is HCV "lazy" and remains at lower levels as it does not have to exepend energy against a vigorous immune response, or does viremia level soar, as the body is not challenging it? What about HIV? Same or different in viral dynamics in acute infection versus the immune response? |

 Yes there is a difference between some people who get HCV or HIV and the level of their virus in the beginning. If the immune system controls HCV, some of these patients can even clear the virus on their own. Control of HIV in the beginning of infection is much better for long term outcome than no control whatsoever. However, the good news for HIV is that even if the patient can't control virus, we have excellent drugs that do. Dr. M | ||||||||
