Medication with Hep C
Nov 28, 2005

Can you please tell me if these medications are safe for someone with Hep C? I question the doctor about their safety for my husband who is in stage 2-3 here is his liver biopsy diagnosis:gross examination- specimen consists of two cores of light brown soft tissue, measuring 0.2 and 1.4 Liver biopsy: chronic haptitis C, with moderate inflammatory activity (grade 3) abd periportal fibrosis (stage 2) Patchy mild far metamorphosis Patchy mild stainable iron identified - Here are the medications: Salsalate (for back pain) Triamterene & Hydrochlorothiazide - Atenolol and Prilosec. I would be ever so grateful for your assistance.

Response from Dr. Dieterich

Sounds perfectly fine to take those medications. None are totally safe, but the risk is low for those two. The big question to ask, though is why is he not getting treated for his HCV? He meets all the criteria for treatment. Good luck! DTD
