|HIV Hepititus B

My Sister has two young boys, and is extremly concerned about their safety considering I have HIV & Hepatitus B. I have gotten a written note, at her request, from my doctor stateing that "my current medical condition is not transmitted by casual houshold contact". I got an additional call today from my mother relaying a request to clarify the circumstances related to Hepititus B. I'm not sure how to assure her that I'm not of danger to my nephews or her. I have tried already to deal with the fact I may never get a chance to see my nephews again, but if you have any input that would help.

I concur completely with your doctor.
Hepatitis B and HIV are not transmitted to household members through casual contact, including hugging and kissing.
Sometimes people are afraid of things that they don't understand. I hope this educational forum will help educate the public about the REAL risks of getting hepatitis B - through unprotected sex and through injection drug use.
