Hepatitis ?
Nov 27, 2005

I had once unprotected sex with a prostitute 11 years back. Now I am having pain in the upper right abdomen and hence went for the USG of abdomen and diagnoses are : changes seen in fatty infiltration of liver.I test negative for HBsAG and Anti-HCV and HIV. Is there any other Hepatitis which can cause liver disease due to unprot. sex with a prostitue. Pls give your opinion, further couse of action.

Response from Dr. McGovern

My leading suspicion is that you may have steatosis or steatohepatitis - both related to fatty liver. The ultrasound suggests fatty liver (steatosis); only a biopsy can tell if you have something more concerning - steatohepatitis.

If your liver function tests are persistently abnormal (AST and ALT) you may want to see a liver specialist as to whether you should have a liver biopsy. Patients can develop liver disease related to fatty liver.
