Response from Dr. Rodriguez-Torres

HCV or hepatitis C is a virus that causes liver disease. There are more than 4 million americans with this condition and the majority of the infected cases are asymptomatic and undiagnosed. The disease is usually silent till the advanced stages of the liver damage .It is now the number one cause for liver trasplant and accounts for gigantic costs in medical care. The disease is treatable. There is no vaccine available, but infection is preventable by avoiding contact with blood ,as,sharing needles ,razors;safe sex.It is not trasmitted in the daily life or work activities.
