Hep C and homosexual relationship Mar 28, 2001 Dear Doctor, Why is it that homosexuals are more susceptible to Hepatitis C if it is a blood born disease. Can Hep C be transmitted through semen that ends up in the mouth. Is so, is the risk the same for premature ejaculation? If not, why is this so. Thank you |

 HCV is a blood borned disease.It is almost universal in hemophiliacs that receive blood products and in IV drug users between 50-90% (incidence).Male homosexuals have a higher risk than the rest of the population.This fact can be explained by:concomitant IV drug use ,or cocaine,increased partners ,promiscuous sex,HIV coinfection ,anal and rectal lessions,traumatic sex,lacerations,shared paraphernalia or razors etc...Yes also blood in the semen mayinfect open wounds anywhere in the body. | ||||||||
