Am I an active carrier? My doctor told me to do a liver biopsy based on the test result. Is the biopsy necessary?

Response from Dr. McGovern

Yes you are a carrier based on your hepatitis B surface antigen. You have low levels of virus but I agree with your physician that in light of your hepatitis e antigen negative status and viremia, it is best to get a biopsy to assess your level of liver disease accurately. Your blood tests give some information but not a complete picture.
