Cunnilingus & Hep B: Am I going to Die!!!!
Jul 30, 2005

Hello Doc. Really like your Q&A board, very informative. I've been worried sick for the last 3 weeks due to an encounter I had in Dubai. I was on a business trip there and got a little too drunk, picked up a prostitue. Had protected intercourse, but unprotected cunnilingus. I did not notice anything unsual on her vagina, i.e. blood or warts or anything like that. I also dont suffer from gum disease and did not have any leisions or cuts around or inside my mouth. Reading the postings on HIV, I see the risk is relatively low, but what about Hep B? Is it easy to get if one performs cunnilingus? (encounter lasted maybe 2 minutes) I've been so worried and depresssed because I'm married with 2 beautiful children and this incident has turned my life upside down. Over the last decade I've never been unfaithful to my wife, so on top of everything else the guilt is also killing me inside. Please let me know if I will survive or not? When should I get tested? Thanks in advance for all your help.

Response from Dr. McGovern

I would not recommend hepatitis testing based on this exposure.

I hope you can achieve solace and enjoy your family once again.

Dr. McGovern
