Jun 22, 2005
Is it ok to drink occasionally if after you've been cured of Hep C?And if Hep C antibodies still show, does it mean i still have Hep C?Am i still cured even if Hep C antibodies still show?If i am cured, why does the Hep C antibodies still show on the test results?Thank You for your time Dr, I appreciate what you are doing for people on this site. Thank You
Response from Dr. Dieterich
Yes! Absolutely, you should be normal and have a normal liver. You should not drink to excess, of course, but go ahead enjoy some alcohol. Now as for the antibody, it is evidence of past infection and does not mean that you have the virus. Once you are cured, virus is gone. As a matter of fact, we are having a gathering in New York City this summer to Celebrate the Cure for people who have been cured! Will let you all know the details when they are available. DTD
