very very high SGOT and SGPT
May 29, 2005

Dear Doctor,

I'm so worried for 2 weeks ago, last 2 weeks, I got a fever. So, I took some paracetamol and rest. After that, I still have a fever but didn't take more medicine. But I came to the doctor for blood testing and got the result of a little higher in white blood cell. This week, I've no fever but I've some symptoms like hepatitis: dark urine, jaundice and many more. so Yesterday, i did the blood test again and the result is no hepatitis A, B and C. But my SGOT is very very high about 357 and SGPT about nearly 300 and another one (that i forgot the name already is also very higher than normal) and i've pus in my throat that is very hurt. So, I couldn't eat much and also my body is very weak. So, what should I do and also what's wrong with me? So, please give me some suggestion because in Thailand there is no expert related to this kind of illness.

Thank you in advanced.

Response from Dr. McGovern

Yes I agree with your concern about your liver function tests. Unfortunately, there is such a wide group of possible reasons including: 1. medication effect 2. viral hepatitis from viral hepatitis A,B,C 3. hepatitis from a systemic illness

I hope you can get to Bangkok where I know there are some excellent infectious disease doctors. One physician who stands out as absolutely top notch is Wichai Techasathit.
