hi barbara i hope u are fine i have a problem i hope u can help me with please i have high alt levels 146 and normal ast my doctor than orderd me to do a vitamin b12 ferritin tibc iron and hep a b and c blood test and a ultra sound well my results came back i tested negative for hep a b and c everything came back fine except my iron is high by 11 percent my hemaglobin is 18.5 my hematocrit is 53.80 my ultra sound said moderate hepatomegaly with very abnormal echotexture possibly on the basis of diffuse fatty infiltration.and mild splenomegaly the doctor told me thats because i am overweight would u agree or would u advise me to do a biopsy i am overweight i weigh 315 pounds and i smoke to paks a day please barbara i need your help here.thank u and i hope u will respone.

Please see my answer to your question which is already posted. I also wanted to add something else which is that your hemoglobin is abnormally high which also needs to be evaluated. I have seen this in patients who are overweight; lung diseases and blood diseases need to be evaluated but I suspect it is related to your weight.
